I am a huge gamer and one of the games that I have always played and known about is chess. Now saying this am I not very good at it but I have gone through phases when I play it consistently for a few months. Especially since I have been in college. Now how does a person born in the 21st century enjoy playing a game that is around 1500 years old.
I was first introduced to chess in middle school. My
school started a chess club and I joined it and began playing during school and
after school. I think I was intrigued by chess because it is a puzzle in some way.
I do not really remember if I was any good since the only people, we played was
people from my class which we had 13 kids in my class. My passion for playing
chess followed me as I entered high school. My freshmen year I had lunch with 2
other students that I knew and mostly everyday we would go play chess during
lunch. Then I kind of forgot about chess the next 4 years. I began putting my
time into videogames and tennis.
Once I reached college I had more free time but I
still did not return to chess until last year when I heard about a new Netflix series
called Queen’s Gambit. Since I had free time, I started putting in some time
back into playing chess and receiving that same euphoric feeling when I played
it when I was in middle school. I am glad I got back into chess. I enjoy
puzzles and high strategy type games. While chess is simple for the most part
it still manages be to one of the most complex games to exist. Even though chess
is so old there is always something new to learn.
I knew chess was old, just not around 1500 years old. Glad you were able to get back into chess!
