Back here with another blog post. Last week talked
about roller hockey and this week I'm going to talk about my experience in a
frisbee league over the summer too.
My experience in the frisbee league is a bit
different than the roller hockey experience. I was still playing with people
above my skill level sometimes but I'm a better frisbee player overall than a
hockey goalie. Because of this I was able to learn concepts easier and become a
better, more competitive player as the summer went on.
Unlike hockey I have been playing ultimate frisbee
for 2-3 years with the club team here at ONU. Instead of learning new concepts
from scratch it was more of refining my skills and elevating my game to a new
level since I had experience already. Since I was a new player in this league I
got auto assigned to a team. The team I got was made up of players in their mid-20’s
who played ultimate at The University of Toledo.
Since I was playing with D1 club players for 2
months I think this is the main reason I elevated my game. Here at ONU we don’t
have a lot of people. Usually, our clubs are competitive but still relaxed. At
bigger D1 schools they have so many people they can just have multiple teams
and can be super competitive.
Something that I think about a lot is mindset and
how once you can step back and look around and change your mindset on whatever
it is you are doing you can improve and get better at whatever you are doing. I
have learned a concept while I have been playing on the esports team from Troy.
You need to take the emotion out of it when assessing mindset and goals so you
can see clearly what you need to work on and change to get better.
Essentially this is what I did with frisbee. I was
able to adapt to a super competitive mindset and I was able to reach my goals
of getting better that I had set for myself over the summer.
Welp time is up. Hope you enjoyed your read. See
ya next week.
That is awesome that you were able to play and refine your skills this summer! I bet it was great experience to work with the D1 players and get to know them better as well!
