Wassup. Back to school and back posting blog posts again.
I had a chill summer. One of the cool things I got to
do was participate in a roller hockey league with some of my friends who played
for my high school’s hockey team. Before the summer I have never played any
form of competitive hockey before. I went out and got some goalie gear so I could
play in the league.
Honestly playing roller hockey is one of the hardest
things I have done dealing with sports. My friends have played in higher levels
of hockey, so our team is forced to play in the top division of competition.
One of the teams in our division had a guy who plays division 1 hockey and made
it to the final four for his respective college. I basically got thrown into
the deep end of the pool and I had to learn the hard way how to play goalie.
Another factor was the weather. The roller rink in
Toledo is outside. So, most days were hot and humid. While wearing about 50
pounds of goalie gear I got a workout in every time I played. I had to start
bringing a towel to dry my head every time there was a break so sweat wouldn’t get
in my eyes.
While I did have a lot of fun playing and learning
over time how to be a better goalie it was a rough journey. Our teams overall
record stands at 1-13-2. That’s 1 win, 13 loses, and 2 overtime loss. That win
came in the 2nd the last week in the season. There are many reasons
why we only won 1 game. We didn’t have people consistently show up to play. I
had never played goalie before, so I had no clue what I was doing. Everyone on
my team had never played in a roller league before this summer either. Our team
went up against top division teams who have played for years.
Playing roller hockey was just 1 of the cool experiences
I had this summer can’t wait to share more in future posts.
See ya next time.
I can't imagine playing outside in the heat and humidity with 50 pounds of gear on! Despite that, that sounds like fun. Glad you had an interesting summer!
ReplyDeleteWhat an exciting summer it seems you have had! Even though the league could seem like a challenge, it is now a story you will probably tell for years. Way to face a challenge and keep pushing through the whole season!
