Hey, I hope your day or night is going well. I am going to be talking about YouTube and how I have grown up with the platform.
When I grew up my family had a pc, and I would play CD videogames on the pc when I was not outside playing sports or hanging out with friends. Around 2012 I started watching YouTube. I honestly cannot remember why I started watching or how I found out about it. I would watch funny videos and watch content on YouTube around the games I played on my Xbox 360 at the time. The biggest being Black Ops 2, Fifa, and NHL. I would watch these videos for entertainment and to learn something new about the game I was playing.
As time went on, I started watching more and more videos from more and more creators. Most of the content I watched was strictly about videogames. Either watching someone who was good at the game play or someone being funny while playing the game. This is what YouTube was like for a long time even before I started watching.
I bring all this up because currently in 2021 there is anything and everything you could ever want to find on YouTube. As I have become older the content I watch has drastically changed. Instead of just watching funny videos while someone plays a game. Most of the content I watch is educational and thought provoking. I mean I still watch some funny videos and videogame gameplay, but it is interesting to see how YouTube has changed over my short life. And how my tastes in what I watch has evolved as I have grown up.
Sometimes I think we all forget how long these social media platforms have been around and how they have evolved for better or for worse. Social media is relatively new but platforms like YouTube and many others are changing so rapidly it feels as if they have been around for a while.
Hey! Reading this took me back to my middle school days where I spent hours every night watching YouTube videos. I watched more DIY and "Get ready with me" videos. I am not on it as much anymore because I spend my free time on TikTok but it does come in handy. I was able to learn how to put together a pool from watching a video. When you said CD video games that instantly reminded me of the ones I used to have growing up. I used to play them all day. Oh to be able to go back and have the only thing to worry about being how long my mom would let me stay on the computer.
ReplyDeleteYou totally just took me back to my years as a toddler when I played CD games on the family boxy computer. Wow! I relate to this a lot. I used to watch YouTube gamers (specifically girl gamers playing Minecraft) all the time for hours on end. I even took it as far as having a Minecraft Instagram page! Totally cringe looking back at it now. I agree though! YouTube has grown so extensively I don't even know what to watch anymore. I find that I've almost completely switched over to the shows on Snapchat over watching any content on YouTube, but I'm looking into getting back into it as a fellow video creator for the ONU show The Roar. Out of curiosity- have you ever considered making content yourself?
