Week 1 PR/Social Media

Hey, I hope your day or night is going well. I am going to be talking about YouTube and how I have grown up with the platform.

When I grew up my family had a pc, and I would play CD videogames on the pc when I was not outside playing sports or hanging out with friends. Around 2012 I started watching YouTube. I honestly cannot remember why I started watching or how I found out about it. I would watch funny videos and watch content on YouTube around the games I played on my Xbox 360 at the time. The biggest being Black Ops 2, Fifa, and NHL. I would watch these videos for entertainment and to learn something new about the game I was playing.

As time went on, I started watching more and more videos from more and more creators. Most of the content I watched was strictly about videogames. Either watching someone who was good at the game play or someone being funny while playing the game. This is what YouTube was like for a long time even before I started watching.

I bring all this up because currently in 2021 there is anything and everything you could ever want to find on YouTube. As I have become older the content I watch has drastically changed. Instead of just watching funny videos while someone plays a game. Most of the content I watch is educational and thought provoking. I mean I still watch some funny videos and videogame gameplay, but it is interesting to see how YouTube has changed over my short life. And how my tastes in what I watch has evolved as I have grown up.

Sometimes I think we all forget how long these social media platforms have been around and how they have evolved for better or for worse. Social media is relatively new but platforms like YouTube and many others are changing so rapidly it feels as if they have been around for a while.

  1. Hey! Reading this took me back to my middle school days where I spent hours every night watching YouTube videos. I watched more DIY and "Get ready with me" videos. I am not on it as much anymore because I spend my free time on TikTok but it does come in handy. I was able to learn how to put together a pool from watching a video. When you said CD video games that instantly reminded me of the ones I used to have growing up. I used to play them all day. Oh to be able to go back and have the only thing to worry about being how long my mom would let me stay on the computer.

  2. You totally just took me back to my years as a toddler when I played CD games on the family boxy computer. Wow! I relate to this a lot. I used to watch YouTube gamers (specifically girl gamers playing Minecraft) all the time for hours on end. I even took it as far as having a Minecraft Instagram page! Totally cringe looking back at it now. I agree though! YouTube has grown so extensively I don't even know what to watch anymore. I find that I've almost completely switched over to the shows on Snapchat over watching any content on YouTube, but I'm looking into getting back into it as a fellow video creator for the ONU show The Roar. Out of curiosity- have you ever considered making content yourself?

Week 4 SMSC

As week 4 rolls around and is ending there has been something on my mind recently that happened by in May after school ended. When finals were done and I went home and was excited for summer. I needed time away from the classroom and this would be my final summer where I was able to spend most of it with the family. About 3 days after I had been home my granny came to visit my sister who was in town and me at our house. My grandma never liked being called grandma so we called her granny. We ate lunch together and talk for a long time since it had been a while since I had seen her in person with covid and everything. She mentioned how lonely she had become because of it and she had no one to talk to a lot of the time. I told her that I would spend the summer at her house cleaning it out like I did last summer. Eventually she ended up leaving and going home since there was a storm coming, she did not want to be caught in it. 2 days later it is mother’s day. In my family on mother’s d

USA vs. Mexico

There was a huge soccer match this past Friday night. USA played Mexico in Cincinnati for their seventh world cup qualifying match. This means they are halfway through world cup qualifying for the 2022 world cup in Qatar. The match is extremely important since Mexico was top of the group before the match was played and if USA won the match, we would move into first place above Mexico. The match was crazy! Pulisic is USA’s best player but he has recently just come back from injury so he did not start. Usually, USA starts off their matches slowly and does not play to well in the first half. Mexico dominated the first half but thankfully did not get a goal. Then the second half started and this is where the action truly began. The game became more chippy and emotions started to rise up. USA started to look better but Mexico was still getting the better chances. That was until Pulisic was subbed into the game with 25 minutes to go. As soon as he came into the game the mentally of the who

Week 3 Social Media for Strategic Communication Chapters 4-6

This week we read Chapters 4-6 in Social Media for Strategic Communication. Chapter 6 specifically stood out to me. In anything we do we should have a plan of what we want to accomplish. Chapter 6 talks about strategic planning for social media. I found this intriguing because most people who use social media do this to some extent. When someone is making a social media post, they subconsciously think about pre-existing information on whatever they are going to post. While individuals may not explicitly think about what they want from their social media post. People post to get a reaction, or they have an end goal to what they posted. They may not necessarily follow every step laid out in chapter 6, but the mindset is similar. This chapter opened my mind to what companies think about potentially when posting on their social media’s. The end goal of a company is to make money. So, when they are doing social media posts whether it is promoting or just creating conversation online com
